Debra Dausy: A few taking joy out of decorating for holidays
I spend a lot of money to decorate for all holidays. Christmas last year cost me over $300 extra on my electric bill. I decorate for the pleasure of others, more than myself. I can’t even see the decorations unless I go outside. People tell me how much they enjoy my decorations. This makes it worth it, knowing others are finding pleasure.
Then along come “the few.” They steal and destroy display items and just generally cause problems.
What kind of pleasure do they get ruining something everyone enjoys?
Last year someone cut many lines of my Christmas lights. They did not even steal them, just destroyed them. Also last year someone stole two monsters I had made for Halloween.
This Halloween a group of about 12 teens stole some of my decorations. I actually chased them down the street in my night gown.
Every year I hesitate to decorate because of these few.
Then I wake up all night in fear someone is outside causing problems. I will continue to battle the few year by year to give pleasure to the many.
I hope the few find their just rewards in life.
