Roger Ladd: Incompetence in the DA’s office

On July 7, an intoxicated neighbor pitched a rock through my picture window. Modesto police quickly responded, arrested the perpetrator and booked him into jail for vandalism. A couple of weeks later I called the district attorney’s office to check on the progress of the case. My only desire was for a judge to direct the responsible party to pay restitution. A clerk told me the case was stalled because “there was no suspect.” I informed this individual the responsible person had been arrested and booked, as was clearly stated in the police report. Her response was she couldn’t locate this report.

I have gotten similar responses every week since. What use is an effective police force when we have in incompetent DA’s office dropping the ball? The public deserves answers, and it might be a good idea for our grand jury to start asking questions.
