Fred Lucas: Why did Hillary need a private email server?
I have read letters to the editor claiming the Republican Party engages in partisan politics by conducting a Congressional investigation into Hillary Clinton’s role in the death of four American citizens at the Benghazi consulate. The most revealing fact discovered was that Clinton used a private email server to conduct State of Department business. Correspondences conducted as Secretary of State are public records, unless classified information is involved. Clinton chose to set up a private email server in violation of State Department and federal government requirements.
This private email server was set up to keep from public scrutiny communications between foreign governments or entities that paid former president Bill Clinton six-figure honoraria for speaking engagements. How did the Clintons amass in excess of $200 million since leaving the White House? Were all the deals honest transactions? As a U.S. citizen, I applaud Congress in its investigative efforts to arrive at a truthful disclosure of what really happened at Benghazi and why.
