Donald E. Risen: Coffee, pastry a nice way to say thanks
On the morning of Veterans Day, a number of us who regularly meet at McHenry Village Bakery for Bible study were lined up to place our order at the counter. At the front of the line was a lady whom we did not know, but who greeted us and recognized us as veterans by our attire. She placed her order, then greeted us again on the way out.
When we got to the counter to place our orders we were told that this gracious lady had paid for all of us to have our coffee and pastry. We have no idea who she is, but we hope she reads this as we thank her for her act of appreciation for our military service. It reinforces our belief that we are supported by a grateful community around us.
Thank-you lady, whoever you are!
Don Risen and seven others, Modesto
