Eric C. Olson: Yes, raising Yosemite’s entry price is prohibitive

Re “Yosemite is still a bargain at $30” (Opinions, Nov. 16): In Dick Hagerty’s column he misses a point when he compares the admission price to Yosemite with a family’s cost of a night at the movies. Yosemite is part of a national park system which is owned by the people of his nation! The theater is not owned by the people.

Many people in the counties surrounding Yosemite cannot afford to avail themselves of its attractions. Soon it will be a park for elites only. The average person living in the area will never set foot in it.

The last increase went from $5 to $20! The administrators at that time threw in “But it’s good for 7 days.” I would like to know the number of area people that have gone to Yosemite for seven straight days.
