Nancy Hladek: Feral cats need help to survive
I was disturbed to see that coverage of the recent Atwater City Council Meeting concerning feral cats was not included in your local edition of The Modesto Bee.
Short version: Atwater proposed to fine or incarcerate feral cat caretakers for feeding feral or abandoned cats within the city limits.
Read more in the Merced Sun-Star (Nov. 11). Local residents and Last Hope Cat Kingdom came forward as advocates for the caretakers and the feral cats and were able to convince the council to rethink or rework their proposed policy. Feral cats are a national concern, not just locally. The public needs to be more informed and proactive in the plight of these creatures. Please join us in our effort to save these cats!
