Jean Hendrix: Repeal Obamacare? Not a good idea

We really do not want to repeal the Affordable Care Act? This legislation has allowed 10 million Americans access to affordable health care; and the number will increase to 25 million in the next five years. All these folks now have the relief of knowing they will not be financially devastated if they get seriously ill.

There are some things that we should remember about Obamacare. It requires insurance companies to cover you whether or not you have pre-existing conditions. Obamacare increased the age that dependents can be carried on their parents’ insurance to 26. Obamacare requires insurance companies to cover preventative-care office visits and tests without co-pays. Obamacare is creating jobs in the health care industry, jobs that pay well and have benefits. And, Obamacare requires that 80 percent of your insurance premium goes to actual health care – not the overhead of the insurance companies, i.e., marketing and inflated CEO salaries.

Obamacare is doing what the health insurance industry failed to do. And, the cost of health care is going down.

The Affordable Care Act should not be repealed. A healthy America is a prosperous America.
