Vincent and Joanne Vega: Motorcycle accidents claim too many
We were devastated to read that on Saturday, Nov. 8, Jared Ficarelli, 15 years old, and Evan White, 19 years old, were killed in motorcycle accidents in Stanislaus County.
On the same day a year before a family friend, Junior Moniz, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Turlock. During Junior’s funeral procession to the cemetery, another motorcycle rider crashed and was killed in front of the grieving family and friends. Per vehicle mile traveled, motorcyclists' risk of a fatal crash is 35 times greater than a passenger car. Riding a motorcycle is very dangerous and may cause harm.
We can’t bring these boys back, but we can prevent other motorcycle accidents. Please drivers, watch out for motorcycle riders. And parents, does your son really need that motorcycle?
