Carol S. Benson: MJC showed only one side of illegal immigration

Recently, I attended an MJC Civic Engagement Project (CEP) movie titled “Undocumented.” A four-person panel discussion followed on the issue of “undocumented immigrants,” a term we were encouraged to use. If the event’s purpose was to present various sides of this situation, that didn’t happen. If the event’s purpose was to spend 90 minutes indoctrinating our students, then the event was a success.

The film and discussion were very pro-Dream Act/amnesty. No one spoke to other facts about illegals. For instance, 30 percent or more of California’s inmates are illegals who’ve broken one or more laws (other than entering our country illegally). No one spoke about the gangs or changes we’ve made to our education and welfare systems. Taxes were mentioned. All consumers pay sales taxes. Illegals do not pay income taxes.

Not only do many illegals feel entitled to come here, deliberately breaking our immigration laws from the start, but many seem to feel entitled to free services, free schooling and even free college. Moreover, MJC employs a woman to make sure the illegal students have access to information about fee waivers and other college benefits. Is all of this OK with you?
