Lani M. Turner: Vote for urban limits, to preserve farmland

The Wood Colony Community Association sincerely thanks those citizens of Modesto who are standing with us in our efforts to protect Wood Colony’s heritage and invaluable farmland. Over 9,700 signatures were gathered from Modesto registered voters to put the SOS Initiative on the Nov. 3, 2015 ballot. SOS would redirect expansion of the city limits to areas where substantial growth has already begun and where agricultural land is of marginal productivity.

With broad support from across the county, Wood Colony citizens have effectively voiced our concerns about plans to develop our land and raze our homes, but we cannot vote on these issues. The matter now lies in the hands of Modesto’s voters to “do the right thing” by choosing to preserve our farmland and heritage. We will remain vigilant in our effort to protect the soil and water resources that improve the quality of life for everyone in Stanislaus County.

Again, thank you for supporting this worthy cause. We urge you to follow through with a yes vote on the ballot initiative: “The Urban Limit (UL) for development and Residential Urban Limit (RUL) for residential development” for the city of Modesto.

Lani M. Turner, Wood Colony Community Association, Modesto
