Jeff Earl: MID rate increase doesn’t make sense
Re “MID weighs 3.5% rate hike” (Page A1, Nov. 9): Who does MID think they are fooling? Energy costs have tumbled over 30 percent, yet MID proposes a 3.5 percent rate increase?
Gut feeling tells me the rate increase is more related to the water costs associated with the drought than the costs to generate electricity. I challenge MID to lower their electricity rates to reflect recent tumble in natural gas costs and raise irrigation rates to reflect increases associated with the drought.
Electricity consumers shouldn’t have to subsidize water rates.
