Louise A. McCoskey: Support for Symphony sadly lacking
Where are you Modesto? The Modesto Symphony is unbelievable, masterful, professionalism of the highest quality. And this last weekend it performed to a half empty concert hall each evening.
Really? Modesto, don’t you realize what we have and how fortunate we are and how much we need to preserve it? We have a population of around 200,000 people. The Gallo Center seats about 1,250 each performance. That is 2,500 people over two nights, which is one and one-quarter of 1 percent of our population. And we can’t fill the hall?
People of Modesto! I’m talking about a first class, first rate symphony playing in a first class, first rate venue and we can’t support them? Wake up Modesto before it isn’t here anymore! We can’t afford to lose the symphony of this caliber other cities would die for. To hear the Modesto Youth Symphony playing the opening selection right along with the Modesto Symphony with no loss of quality, musicianship, or enjoyment is something to be very proud of.
We cannot afford the loss of this great institution, though we apparently don’t even appreciate it. I urge you, plead with you, to get tickets for the symphony. You will never be disappointed.
