S.E. Holland: So many problems with high-speed rail
Gov. Jerry Brown’s biggest initiative is his high-speed bullet train. It will run through California, destroying any farms and towns in its path.
He’s quoted as comparing it to the cathedrals in Europe. But unlike the cathedrals in Europe which remain to this day, the speed train will become obsolete. There are many problems: it will take an excessively long time to build, it will be very expensive to build and run, costing California money it doesn’t have, the fares will be far too costly, making the entire project a total waste, and the high speeds at which the train will run, 200 mph, are dangerous to humans and animals alike.
The current estimated cost is $68 billion. The time estimated for the project to take is growing, the costs are increasing, the fares are soaring and the dangers skyrocketing. Who wants a speed train anyway?
