Aynslie Frederickson: Save our planet, before it’s too late

The most vital issue facing the world is climate change! There is consensus in the scientific community about what is happening to our environment – and why. We have only a few years in which to make changes that will ensure a habitable planet for our descendants. Why do we elect legislators who deny science? The likely chair of the Senate’s Environment and Public Works Committee will be Sen. James Inhofe, who unequivocally states climate change is a hoax.

Scientific study and creativity propelled Homosapiens from primitive lifestyles to modernity and longer lifespans in which to follow dreams and pursue happiness. But we, in the world’s most powerful country, have elected legislators who, supported by wealthy and powerful interests, are making every effort to rescind laws, regulations and codes that allow the average individual to do just that. Mining and refining of fossil fuels, and use of the products, are primary contributors to climate change. Solutions to the problems that result from moving to clean energy can be found through creativity and innovation.

Let’s all tell our legislators we want positive action on climate change. Perhaps our planet can be saved!
