Kathy Munoz: We’re paying three times for homeless food cards

In the Sept. 22 meeting concerning the homeless situation, one issue was not raised: That of the EBT cards meant to provide the homeless a way to purchase food. We are actually paying for these cards, via our taxes, three times. First to the farm subsidy, again for the administration of the cards, and then again for law enforcement when the homeless trade these cards to markets for alcohol. I hope we can see to it that these funds are spent for the purpose they were intended. Decoy buyers catch sales to minors; some preventative measures of this kind with EBT might reduce drinking in our parks and streets. It would certainly make our charitable gifts go further
