Mike Whiteley: Tell us exactly how police spend $57.3 million
I open my water bill and here is the city manager telling us the people of Modesto that we need to approve a half-percent sales tax increase to protect us. A couple of months ago they published the city’s budget, and $57.3 million went to police. Give me a break!
Publish the police budget and how they spend $57.3 million, every dime of it. Then let us, the people of Modesto, decide how to deal with the homeless, vagrancy and crime problems. The city has had seven or eight years to decide, and you’ve done a horrible job. Every park in town is a mess!
We need information to make the right choice, because it is a choice. Our choice.
