Karen Mosser: Feral Cat Day celebrates the cat revolution

National Feral Cat Day has been observed on Oct. 16 every year since 2001. The theme for 2015 is “The Evolution of the Cat Revolution.”

Stanislaus County Cat Network will celebrate by having a “Kitty Tea Party,” Oct. 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Harvest Presbyterian Church, 1813 Moffett Road, Ceres. We will be serving desserts, tea sandwiches, fruit and tea. There will be a raffle and silent auction. Tickets are $10. All proceeds will go to spay and neutering feral and stray cats in our community. Call 809-5406, 537-9818 or 735-0604 for details or tickets. Cat Network was started by community volunteers to raise awareness about ferals (also called community cats), promote TNR and empower and mobilize the residents of this county who care for them.

TNR is the first step toward a “No Kill” community; since June 2013 we have helped reduce the euthanasia rate of cats at our shelter by 52 percent. The shelter TNR program is nearing 6,000 cats S/N and returned to the community. We have a lot to celebrate, so come join us. Donations are gratefully accepted.
