Chuck Sheaffer: Teen’s story opened eyes to human trafficking

Re “Modesto group keeps up fight against human trafficking” (Page 3A, Aug. 24): My thanks to The Bee teen reporter Kara Liu for her article about human trafficking in Stanislaus County. I attended the presentation on human trafficking at the convention center on Sept. 17. I had no idea that human trafficking was happening right here in Modesto. I was shocked to find out that 12- and 13-year-olds are being actively lured into this and becoming sex slaves.

As a community we need to say no to human trafficking and get the word out to our families and friends and partner with schools to make sure our teens know when to suspect a human trafficker is trying to recruit them.

The Modesto Bee needs to play an important role in getting information out – this should be front-page news, not hidden in the local section. Modesto Bee editor: Please do a better job of reporting about this horrible crime of human trafficking.
