Tony Mislin: Find happiness, then pay it forward

I had the most wonderful experience November 4. I was shopping for a couple of items that I needed for dinner and when I got to the cashier there were long lines of people waiting to check out, and most had full shopping carts.

A friendly lady asked me to go in front of her because I only had 3 times in my cart. In front of her another lady had just finished unloading her cart, and the cashier was starting to ring the items up. This customer asked the cashier to ring up my three items first, and then added “please add them to my bill.”

When I protested, she said “I’m paying it forward.”

This made me feel so good that I wanted to write this letter.

First, to thank two strangers for being so kind, and second to encourage other people to do the same thing, because this small act made me feel so good. If they do, there will be a lot of smiling faces in town.

Tony Mistlin, Ripon
