Ross W. Lee: Doctor wants to speak, but would silence Bishop’s voice

Re “Bishop should butt out of assisted-suicide debate” (Letters, Sept. 20): It is the height of hypocrisy for the writer, a doctor, to posit that Bishop Stephen Blaire’s comments on the Catholic Church’s view against assisted suicide should be limited to Christians, and then go on to speak his own mind on the subject to the public at large. The First Amendment applies to Catholic Bishops as well as misguided physicians.

Hospice provides an amazing service of palliative care that allows terminally ill patients to die with dignity, not alone but with their loved ones, and not in pain. Assisted suicide sends the message that the patient should give in to despair and kill himself or herself because there is no hope and no other way. There is hope and there is another way.
