John Lacey: Narrowing College one of Modesto’s dumbest mistakes

I am one of the many victims of a newer slimmed-down College Avenue. Yesterday it took me seven minutes to drive from Granger to Orangeburg. While waiting, I saw numerous vehicles driving down the bike lanes, looking to turn off onto back streets for alternative routes. I understand the goal of this $1.5 million change was for safety. Whoever came up with this as a solution needs their head examined! To add salt to the traffic-nightmare wound, the city paid a construction firm that wasn’t even from Modesto to do the job of narrowing the road! This has got to be one of dumbest things the city has ever done!
