Kristopher S. Pierce: Being pro-life means supporting all who live
Of the two main political parties, the GOP is still the most sympathetic to the pro-life cause. However, even among Republican candidates it is becoming much less fashionable to talk about social issues, or to speak boldly about one’s pro-life convictions. Ironically, this is happening while the pro-life movement is gaining momentum, and seeing more young people join the cause. As a Christ follower, I want to see both Democrats and Republicans embrace this cause because I believe with all of my heart that it is a just cause.
I also want to communicate something to my Democrat friends: being pro-life means so much more than just being against abortion. It means fighting for women and children who find themselves in less-than-ideal circumstances. This is why we support crisis pregnancy centers, like the ones in Modesto and Turlock, that help women make life-affirming choices and provide much-needed resources to them. Being pro-life also means supporting adoption agencies, homeless shelters, food banks, senior meals providers, hospitals, care-giving services, and organizations that train and employ the developmentally disabled so that they can live a full and purposeful life.
