Mike Gain: We must seek a living prophet
I read with interest the letter “You Can’t Edit God’s Mail” (Letters, Oct. 31). The writer offered that the Catholic Church had been the “carrier of God’s mail” for the last 2,000 years. I respectfully suggest, however, that they ceased to be God’s mail carrier beginning in the 12th century when the Inquisition started. They may have ceased long before then. For this and other good reasons the Protestants determined that the Catholic Church no longer represented God on the Earth.
Only God can appoint His “letter carrier” – someone we would call a prophet. No Protestant church claims to have a living prophet, so they cannot “carry the mail” for God today.
So, who “carries God’s mail” today? It would have to be a living prophet personally appointed by God as were Moses, Peter and the rest. Even though they had the words of the dead prophets, each of God’s prophets was very much alive when they were chosen by God to be His official representative on the Earth. If we seek a new “letter carrier” today we must look for a church headed by a living prophet.
