Dan Costello: Catholics, be careful whom you choose
No Catholic can vote for a candidate who supports intrinsically evil acts. An intrinsic evil act is one that, by its very nature, is evil. Such acts are abortion, same-sex marriage, contraception, euthanasia, embryonic stem-cell research (not adult stem-cell research) and the denial of religious freedom. To vote for candidates who support such acts is to condone those acts and is seriously sinful. What if both candidates support intrinsic evil acts? Then one must vote for the candidate who supports less of those acts. No priest or bishop can tell a Catholic who to vote for, but only inform the conscience of Catholics and others of good will in applying Catholic teaching to the way they vote.
