Marie Davis: License to break the law?
Re “Immigrants prepare to get licenses” (Page A1, Oct. 20): In my humble opinion, your headline should have read “Illegal immigrants prepare to get licenses.” “Illegal” being the most important word. We are bending the laws once again to accommodate people who are law-breakers. According to the article, Graciela Iniguez has spent approximately $12,000 to pay fines/impound charges for breaking the law. I’m not sure, but I doubt that any auto insurance company would cover someone without a valid license – much less so many traffic tickets – so she probably doesn’t have any insurance, meaning she is again breaking the law.
Why do we have laws if they are not enforced across the board, no exceptions? I am first-generation American, so I have nothing against immigration. My parents both immigrated to America legally and they learned to speak, read and write enough English to pass their drivers license tests like anyone else. They got no special treatment and didn’t expect any. I consider myself a very compassionate person and understand trying to have a better life. However, why do some of us have to comply with the laws while others get a pass? Gov. Moonbeam will not be getting my vote this election.
