Eric Julien: Don’t listen to lies, distortions; climate change is real
Re “Climate change just fear mongering” (Letters, Aug. 25): I must take exception to the falsities presented in this letter.
▪ The 97.1 percent consensus comes from a self-reported stance by the actual authors of climate research papers.
▪ Philip Lloyd is managing director at Industrial & Petrochemical Consultants, Ltd., and was in charge of Annexe II; he was not a lead author of a chapter of an IPCC report.
▪ Patrick Moore, a lobbyist for the nuclear industry, was not the co-founder of Greenpeace.
▪ John Christy is the only climatologist on the list of experts, but his analysis of the data doesn’t match that of other researchers. He conveniently leaves out significant data and claims the predictions don’t match the change measured. Yet, when all factors are included, the predictions match very well.
The letter writer’s claim that scientists are using a new fad to scare people is false. Sign onto youtube.com and search the phrase, The Unchained Goddess Climate Change. You will find a clip broadcast in 1958 on the Bell Telephone Hour that warns us of what is happening to our climate. Accelerated global warming was first proposed in the research paper by Svante Arrhenius in April 1896.
Eric Julien, Turlock
Editor’s note: Patrick Moore was a member of Greenpeace in the 1970s, not among its founders; the organization now disavows Moore’s environmental positions.
