Dale Butler: Great food, entertainment, information at Assyrian Festival
I attended the opening ceremony at the Assyrian Festival on Aug. 29 at the Stanislaus County Fairground. I was highly impressed with the festival’s offerings and very much enjoyed the food, entertainment and the tour that covered historical exhibits of the Assyrian culture. Assyrians have endured many challenges and hardships, including genocide. They are an ancient and resilient people, and their historical and ongoing contributions are well documented. We are blessed to live in a culturally diverse valley that includes the Assyrian community.
I thank the Assyrian Church of the East, Diocese of California for showcasing their culture at the festival and look forward to attending next year’s celebration.
