Scott Blevins: Trucker says SB350 moves clean-air goal post in middle of game
In the last few weeks, the public has been holding a conversation about Senate Bill 350. The main focus has been between big oil and environmental groups. However, it’s important that in this state, we acknowledge those who deliver the goods to virtually all of California’s communities: truckers.
SB 350, authored by Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon, would authorize the California Air Resources Board to cut the use of petroleum by 50 percent by 2030. As President of Mountain Valley Express, my company has invested $4 million on new trucks and technologies to comply with current ARB regulations.
Yet, SB 350 would overlook my investments. The bill would permit the state to undercut my business, along with thousands of others who have already bought new trucks. SB 350 would move the goal posts in the middle of the game. I join the thousands of truckers who operate in and out of California in asking our legislators to consider our sacrifices for air quality and investments before moving forward with SB 350.
