Ron Lopez: Funding cuts make Ebola scarier
Funding cuts make Ebola scarier
Here’s a thought on this Ebola thing: should we not have cut public-health trained school nurses from school district budgets? In making fiscal decisions like this, school administrators demonstrate the local version of the national short-sightedness that has gotten us where we’re at now in terms of public health policy. It’s like not buying fire extinguishers. I think about how much good a legion of well-informed, well-trained nurses could be doing right now. The kids go home and teach their parents; it’s the perfect public health education model, yet we don’t do it. The public needs to hold people accountable for the current problems.
