Twainhart Hill: Ordinance would make park safe for all users

Since the announcement about a possible ordinance for feeding homeless in the park, I have come up with these observations. There are organizations who are responsible and doing good for the community. They abide by the health regulations, so the food is safe to eat and they make sure the area is clean afterward. There are groups and individuals who are well intentioned but come to a park, leave bag lunches and/or clothes and then leave. In several cases, the area is left littered.

Some of those park locations are near schools and neighborhoods, and there is a tendency for those who come for the lunches to stay in the park, sleep and make day encampments. The daytime encampments do not create a sense of safety for families who want to enjoy the park. I see the ordinance as a way to help regulate the safety, times and places to serve meals and to help make parks feel safe for everyone.
