Thomas Gemetti: It wasn’t a gun, it was a man who killed two people

Re “Two more lives taken by guns” (Opinion, Aug. 28) by Nicholas Kristof: Again, guns are blamed for a tragedy caused by a human being. If guns were the problem, why then, are people prosecuted for crimes involving guns – not the guns themselves? Ridiculous, yes, but the answer is obvious.

Note that media accounts of the event tell us that Vester Flanagan “took his own life.” No mention of a gun there. Vester Flanagan, not a gun, took the lives of two people.

Thomas Gemetti, Modesto
