Marvin Harper: What does Carson’s hourly rate have to do with justice?

Re “Killing case against attorney is outlined” (Page 1A, Aug. 23): I find it interesting that the letter writer would think that “This is a man who makes $250 an hour and he’s going to whack some clown behind some stolen pipe. I don’t think so.”

So the victim of this killing is a “clown” because the suspect makes $250 per hour? Wow, how much would he have to make to not even be investigated? Or maybe, if the accused makes enough money, he could just tell law enforcement he didn’t have anything to do with it and let it go at that. This “clown” was someone’s son or brother. In my 34 years in law enforcement in this county, I have encountered a lot of really good, honest defense attorneys who do their job and try the evidence as it is presented. This statement puts the letter writer in the group of lawyers who “put the cop on trial” regardless of evidence. Thank goodness the former group outweighs the latter.
