Mary Baucher: Groundwater loss is scary
It’s very interesting to me that the letter “Don’t let your lawns die out” (Letters, Aug. 22) and the front page article “Central Valley sinking fast in drought” (Page 1A, Aug. 22) appeared the same day. I, like the letter writer, am sad to see lawns die. However, I have a big “dirt patch” in front of my house because I’m more concerned about the aquifer beneath my home and our city. It may cost me plenty eventually to replace my lawn and shrubs, but saving water now is more important to me now than keeping the value of my real estate high. The loss of aquifer is permanent and scary.
