Robert Wright: Don’t diminish God by trying to exclude whoever

Being straight is not a per-requisite for being a Christian. The Bible is very clear on this subject. Jesus said in Matthew 10:32, “Whoever confesses me before men, him I will also confess before my father who is in heaven.” Everyone knows John 3:16, when Jesus said, “For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Again, Jesus said in John 6:37, “All that the Father gives to me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will by no means cast out.”

Ask yourself, why does Jesus, the son of man, say “whoever” repeatedly? Could the answer possible be because God is all inclusive? I know that I am whoever, and that they are whoever, and that you are whoever. It would only make sense that we should accept every single one of these whoevers that God has accepted. To the hard-core fundamentalist Christians, your God is big enough for you and all the whoevers.
