Anna Bennett: If you were homeless, where would you live?
Re “Modesto faces balance between hunger, order in park feedings” (Page A1, Aug. 16): Have you ever been down and out, or has Lady Luck always smiled upon you? Be very careful about making decisions that you could possibly regret the rest of your life.
So what are you planning to do with the homeless? Are you thinking of concentration camps? Do you plan to fine and punish their sympathizers? Are you planning to inflict a sales tax to support your agenda? Life is completely regulated with our zoning system, so the homeless will gravitate to public parks because they do not have anywhere else to go. It is unconscionable to let the homeless starve to death or die from exposure. Winter will come and they will be miserable with the cold, having sickness as a result. Life is hard for them and we, who are on top of things in life, should not aggravate their plight but should alleviate their suffering.
The homeless are you and me. The homeless represent the fear we all have of losing everything we have. We shudder to see someone begging for a few bucks for food and shelter. That could happen to us.
