Yuko Kellner: There was no joy after the bomb fell on Japan

Re “Recognize the joy felt 70 years ago today” (Opinions, Aug. 15): I tell the author to own words and print his name. Let him have his rehashed war-game calculus about the numbers of lives the atomic bomb saved – is anyone still keeping score? He may keep the regurgitated justifications of the past 70 years. Fine. My first point is a criticism that using words like “joy” and “celebrating” in connection with war and killing is crass and should not be conflated with patriotism.

I am Japanese, and we continue to live with the effects of the atomic bombs on our people and our country. The anonymous editor is separated from the continuing horror by an ocean of distance inside his bubble of nostalgia. No, it wasn’t the same for you. I know this was a fluff piece, but please try and improve.
