The SAVE Act would be disastrous for voting rights | Opinion

Attendees hold signs advocating for voting rights and against the SAVE America Act at a rally to outside the U.S. Capitol on March 18, 2026, in Washington, D.C. The SAVE Act would create a burden, especially for poor and marginalized voters, by requiring additional documentation to cast a ballot.

Fight against The SAVE Act

The SAVE Act is not about voter ID — it’s about voter suppression | Opinion,” (modbee.com, March 28)

I am a wife, mother and grandmother in Tracy. I serve my church and community in multiple ways: in callings at church, as a member of the Environmental Sustainability Commission at the City and as a community political organizer.

After 40 years of voting consistently, I am appalled that when I reregister, I may have to bring my passport, birth certificate or even marriage license. This is an unfair burden. But it’s not me I’m worried about: I’m more worried about the poor and marginalized citizens who don’t have the means to obtain their birth certificate, a costly passport and/or a marriage license (possibly for a marriage that has ended).

This, to me, seems onerous and deliberate. Urge your representatives to vote against the SAVE Act, which would impose this burden on innocent citizens.

We must fight this.

What should I do about Big Tech?

State leaders must actually hold social media, AI companies accountable | Opinion,” (modbee.com, April 8)

I am 16 years old, and greatly disturbed about what these huge social media companies can get away with. What can I do? Should I boycott these tech giants? Should I personally go without amenities such as artificial intelligence?

I believe it is a great evil that these large companies control so much with no accountability, and we have a responsibility to do something about it. But what can one person do?

Impeachment now

California leaders react to Donald Trump’s Iran war speech. ‘Totally delusional’,” (modbee.com, April 1)

President Donald Trump has, once again, demonstrated his disregard for law and common decency, as well as for the safety and well-being of our military service members. He is clearly unfit to lead the world’s greatest military.

Impeachment is the only reasonable response.

No sensible explanation

California leaders react to Donald Trump’s Iran war speech. ‘Totally delusional’,” (modbee.com, April 1)

It is monumentally shameful to hear President Donald Trump threaten civilian populations in Iran and surrounding Middle East countries that did not initiate an attack on America.

Trump appears to be waging a war absent any sensible explanation or justification for sacrificing American lives.
