‘Two wrongs don’t make a right’: Valley residents react to redistricting plan | Opinion

Costly and deceitful

With Gov. Newsom’s signature, California will have a redistricting special election in November,” (modbee.com, Aug. 21)

Even though the State of California is in a $12 billion dollar budget deficit, Gov. Gavin Newsom wants to spend $200 million worth of taxpayer money for a special election that he knows violates the state constitution by pushing through a gerrymandered redistricting proposal.

The California Constitution states that no map shall be drawn to provide favoritism to a political party. That is exactly what Newson is doing. The people of California voted in 2010 to specifically stop that type of deceit.

Two wrongs

With Gov. Newsom’s signature, California will have a redistricting special election in November,” (modbee.com, Aug. 21)

As the old proverb goes: “Two wrongs don’t make a right.”

I see the redistricting being done in both Texas and California as a move to further remove the input from moderates. It is unfortunate that the people that might have a balanced viewpoint on issues are not going to be able to get their opinions heard.

What happened to Texas?

With Gov. Newsom’s signature, California will have a redistricting special election in November,” (modbee.com, Aug. 21)

What happened to Texas? It’s always had a “frienamies” relationship with D.C. But now the head of the federal government tells Texas, “Find me five more seats.” And they did.

Texas has given up its independence for a political party — choosing party over state.

For generations, Texas wanted to stand alone as a truly independent state. Don’t mess with Texas! And now? The feds are outright telling them what to do with their own state’s voting rights.

These politicians are weak and selfish. What could possibly go wrong?

And as for California, our redistricting is also lame. History will remember all of this. Fighting stupidity and weakness with the same? We are becoming what we feared.

Democratic destruction

Do you earn a living wage in Stanislaus County? Here’s how much you need in 2025,” (modbee.com, July 10)

Many voters who have continued to vote Democrat have turned California into a left-wing one-party state and brought on high energy costs, an exodus of businesses and residents, more crime and soaring taxes.

Marcus Lemonis, the chairman of Bed Bath & Beyond, said: “California has created one of the most overregulated, expensive and risky environments for businesses in America. The result? Higher taxes, higher fees, higher wages that many businesses simply cannot sustain and endless regulations that strangle growth.”

My best recommendation to save California is to quit voting for rigid left-wing ideologues who care nothing about gas prices, high crime, business or soaring taxes.

These Democrats have done a magnificent job of destroying California.
