Betty Gay: Modesto needs some privately owned parks
Re “Homeless pose quandary for city; Residents raise concerns as leaders ponder options” (Page A1, Aug. 5): After reading the Bee article about local residents planning to speak to the city council about cleaning up local parks, I wondered why Modesto doesn’t have any private parks? As a mother of two, I have more than once made the voyage to Micke Grove near Stockton and happily paid the entrance fee because I knew I would get a clean and safe playground for my kids to play on. Public places are important for every community, but in a town with so many entrepreneurial-minded citizens I think a privately owned park would do well.
Betty Gay, Modesto
Editor’s Note: Micke Grove is owned and operated by San Joaquin County.
