Jim Pender: Guns aren’t the problem
Re “Speak up against gun violence” (Letters, July 30): I am a Life member of the NRA and you are interpreting the meaning of what we stand for all wrong. Guns kill people, but without people the guns are nothing. Please read further on Dylann Roof; did he buy the gun, or did someone else get it for him (very bad in his situation)? Was that a state in which you walk into a gun store, lay down money and walk out with a gun? Hope not. Anyway, what a tragedy; every thing that could go wrong, went wrong in that situation. And God will judge his actions!
The 27 words of the Second Amendment says it all, please read it. I am not looking for an excuse to shoot someone, but being ex-military, if the need arises, and I have to defend myself or my wife, I will do so! I agree with you on one thing: Be responsible, take classes in proper gun handling. Get a permit for a concealed weapon, if of age. The best medicine for the situation are open-to-the-public seminars, held every month, hosted by local police or sheriffs. Come join.
