Barbara Stanley: Pit bull was just doing its job
Re “Woman’s arm injured during attack by dog” (Page A7, Aug. 5): Woman who was clearly trespassing, clearly going into a fenced yard. I have two over 100-pound German Shepherds; both are kept in the backyard. I am a senior and my two girls warn me if anyone is close to my fenced yard, which is completely enclosed. These dogs were raised with lots of children, adults and other dogs; if they sense someone they don’t trust, they react.
You’re telling me that if either of my girls bite someone in my fenced and posted yard, animal control can take my dogs – who are protecting my yard or me, against my will and proof of all shots – and kill them for doing their job? My grandkids have pit bulls, not once have they acted out; and yes, they love their family.
This dog will lose its life because an intruder opened a gate and approached him.
I was bit by a toy poodle; had stitches. But I would never ask anyone to turn a dog over to be killed. This pit bull vendetta is way out of hand. Come on people, fight to save a beautiful animal who was doing its job.
