Lynn Telford-Sahl: Second leg of Virginia Avenue trail a disappointment

I was so excited for the second leg of the Virginia Avenue trail to open. When I walked on the trail for the first time though I was shocked and disappointed. The trees and lights are lovely, but I can see why the city refused to open the trail for so long.

The width of the new trail is narrower than the first leg, which will make it harder for bikers and walkers to stay out of each others’ way. The biggest shock is the grey cement that’s been blasted over all the natural dirt/grasses that make this section look like a neglected moonscape. It is depressing.

Our beautiful first leg of the Virginia Avenue trail looks like a part of nature inside the city limits. I don’t know who made the decision to spray that awful cement, the city or the asphalt company, but it was a bad decision! I’ll stick to the first leg of the trail, one that was built with tender loving care. Anyone else share my opinion?
