Don Schneider: How much did all that asphalt cost?

Re “Hefty school bond debt may not pencil out” (Page B1, July 29): As your article clearly described, the wonderful new Modesto schools have cost us a fortune and are costing us even more in unnecessary new asphalt! What is the cost of all the new surfaces on nearly all of the schools’ properties and why was that cost necessary? Also, why was there such a major compacted dirt base put down? Much more than needed for new asphalt?
