Thomas Tyler: Brown spots on lawn a badge of honor
As I drive through Modesto I see many lawns in despair because of lack of water. Many home owners are taking the drought seriously and doing their parts to reduce water consumption. These people take pride in their homes, and I am sure they don’t like letting their lawns go brown. They do it because it is the right thing to do. Thank you for being responsible.
In certain parts of Modesto and surrounding areas, I see large lush green lawns in front of many private homes. There is not a spot of brown to be found. Are these people ignorant of the fact that California is facing one of the longest droughts in recent history? One would assume they either don’t know or they are just being selfish, unwilling to do their parts. In either case, shame on them.
Our limited water resources belong to everybody equally. It does not matter who can afford to pay the most or their social standing. Everyone must do their part to conserve. If your lawn develops brown spots, then everyone knows you are doing your part.
