Alfa Broderick: America’s throw-away culture destroying entire planet
Looking at the gigantic amounts of garbage we produce at home, commercial buildings, stores, factories, etc., makes me think that we still have a long way to go and need to try much harder to reduce, reuse, recycle.
What's difficult for me to understand is the carelessness of so many people who don't give a second thought about wasting and discarding things that others could use, whether it's food, clothes, etc., just to mention some... Meanwhile so many people in third world countries go without the bare minimum... Our motto should be: "sharing resources... helping others".
Another story altogether is the disposable containers (plastic, cardboard, paper, glass, etc.) that people toss all over the place. When I see the mounds of plastic containers that go in garbage containers nowadays I really get worried. What's going to be of our planet in a few years, when there is no room for more garbage? And plastic is toxic, I understand. Am I the only one who worries about that?... I just read about the humongous plastic "island" the size of Texas, rocking back and forth in the Atlantic. So far, nobody has been able to figure a way of getting rid of it. And this has happened just in the last 40 years or so (since plastic, the "Marvel of the XX Century" made its debut in the world.) What a shame!
