Patricia Lemaster: Why pay religious group to educate children?
Re “School board to discuss fire repairs, discipline” (Page A3, July 27): $36,000 to contract with Youth for Christ to assist with the teaching and care of handicapped children with behavior problems? OK, wait, wait – what’s that about separation of church and state? And is there favoritism practiced against non-Christians? If necessary to contract with someone, how about a professional? That money would benefit all students by helping restore music in the schools. Before anyone gets upset, I am not anti-Christian or against the handicapped. I am in favor of doing the best we can for children. Provide for and protect them.
