Connie Gray: Sharia Law penalties include flogging, stoning
Re “Christianists, Islamists same” (Letters, July 24): Sharia is a system of law based on the Koran (or Qur’an). The Koran also contains over 100 verses that call Muslims to war with non-believers. The Koran doesn’t teach love of others, unless you’re Muslim! In the book Surah, 8:12: “I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike every fingertip of them.”
Verses such as this are not kept in historical context, as Bible verses are. Christians are taught to “turn the other cheek” and “share the good news.” Our Laws are The Ten Commandments. Christianity and Islam the same? When was the last time you heard a Christian threaten to behead someone for not converting to Christianity?
Sharia law allows a female victim of rape to be stoned to death. Pre-marital sex, adultery, theft, drinking alcohol – all carry a sentence of flogging, or a stoning.
The laws of this country and Sharia Law are incompatible. Live together in peace? We will, if we can. Under Sharia Law I would have to deny Christ in order to continue living. Would I? No.
