Thomas McDermott: Values based in hate need to be abandoned

Re “Rainbow belongs to God, not gays” (Letters, July 20): I am shocked and appalled at the beliefs of the writer. Her insistence that President Obama and the Supreme Court listen to so-called Christian values, as opposed to the Bill of Rights, is appalling. She seems to assume we all agree with her that American rights come from the Christian idea of god. No thank you, ma’am. I’m almost glad, in fact, that we are moving away from “Christian values” in our society. From what I’ve seen and read, almost all examples of modern “Christian values” are just an excuse for bigots to spout hate and fear and call it gospel.
