E.R. Gomez: Trump a font of hate, not wisdom
Re: “Trump only one telling the truth” (Letters, July 14): I respect letters to the editor that are written without offending people and that offer solutions to the subject being discussed. However the person who wrote about undocumented immigrants, labeling them all as criminals and using his service in the Navy as a shield, does not make him an authority on the subject. Being born in Mexico, like him, I came here looking for a better life and better educational opportunities for my children.
The things that spur migration is often inequality of riches, dictatorship, race and even religious beliefs. Yes, some immigrants are criminals and should be deported or jailed immediately, but for the majority the only “crime” is that they are poor and undocumented and looking for the same opportunities all of us enjoy.
Freedom of speech is a Constitutional right. However, many people use it to stray beyond the line of decency, as is the case of Donald Trump who labeled all Mexicans criminals – including those who support his diatribes. Hitler used exactly the same rhetoric inflicting hate against the Jewish population. Let’s offer solutions, not hate.
