Don Cunningham: Cat went on an unexpected trip to Fresno
Re “Cat rescued from truck engine gets new home” (Page A5, July 13): I saw the story about the cat rescued from the engine compartment of a truck after a 28-mile ride.
Many years ago I visited some friends in Lancaster after helping them move there. When leaving in my car after a few days visit, I drove north toward Modesto on Highway 99.
When driving through Fresno (the Highway 99 route at that time took all traffic through the towns then returned to freeways in between) I stopped at a light and someone yelled, “There’s a cat tail under your left rear fender!” I pulled over, got out and, sure enough, a cat’s tail. I pulled at the tail ... and out came a really mad cat. I flung it away from me immediately! I like animals, but the cat and I had to separate.
After I got home in Modesto, my friends called and said, “Ever since you left for home yesterday, our cat has been missing. Do you know anything about it?”
